morning thoughts

By Tara Zandra | September 8, 2008

It used to be if I woke up to clouds I would immediately feel down and be thrown into a funk. Now they don’t bother me at all. I know longer consider them a sign of a gloomy day. I’m not sure what changed, but I’m glad for the change because we get a lot of cloudy mornings around here.

We didn’t actually watch “The Assasination….” the other night. I lasted 40 minutes and then asked Chris to pause so we could discuss if we wanted to continue. I wanted to like the movie, I really did, but I didn’t. It seemed pointless and I don’t particularly like watching movies where I know the ending. That’s what happened when we watched “August Rush.” It was obvious how it was going to end and the journey of the movie wasn’t that great. Anyway, we read some online reviews for it and they were all wonderfully positive. But then we found one review that hated the movie and all his reasons for hating it were what I was feeling so I knew it wasn’t going to get better for me. Chris was fairly apathetic about it so he had no problem turing it off either. We watched an acoustic Foo Figthers’ concert we had on Tivo instead.

Last night I started on my first piece of doll clothing for Tabitha’s American Girl doll. I bought a pattern a few months ago but really didn’t sew that much this summer so it hadn’t even been opened. Last year at Halloween Tabitha wanted me to make her doll, Lindsay, a costume. I made a skirt but never figured out a top. So last night I pulled out the patterns and decided to make a black top to go with the purple skirt I sewed last year. I think all that I accomplished last night may have to be chalked up to a learning experience and I may need to start over. I’m using a simple cotton fabric but it appears I may have to scrap what I’ve done and buy a black knit fabric instead for the stretch. The problem is I’ve never worked with knit and I know the edges can roll up and be difficult. I’m going to try to make what I have work, but I really think it’s all for naught right now. Whenever I do get it done though, I’m going to take a couple bats from Tabitha’s skirt fabric and applique them onto Lindsay’s skirt. Should be cute when it’s done. Of course, I’m just setting myself up for Daisy wanting something for Bitty Daisy. I think I can dodge that though because Bitty Daisy actually does have a Halloween costume in the form of a pumpkin.

Daisy starts her new ballet/tap combo dance class today so we need to go get her shoes. Because every 3 year old needs shoes that can give a headache to anyone within a 5 mile radius. I’ll get Excedrin too.

Ya know, I spend 7.5 hours Mon-Fri sewing, but don’t think I could do what you do to save myself! LOL What I do is so repetitive…The only time I’ve ever made anything from a pattern was back in Jr High when we made “jams” in Home Ec.
I’m planning on being a Cavewoman for Halloween, I need to get some faux fur & make a vest. Wish me luck! @@
I love hearing about your projects & especially seeing the finished products - keep it up Z, the kids will remember it forever! *hugs*
