The Fighters of Foo

By Tara Zandra | March 7, 2008

Chris and I went to see the Foo Fighters last night- great concert :) They were extremely high energy and played for over 2 hours. They hit all my faves save two, but those two aren’t really concert songs. They even played their remake of Prince’s “Darlin’ Nikki.”

Nothing has been going on this week which is why I haven’t been blogging. We’ve been doing lessons, the girls have played and I’ve done housework. We went to a few fabric stores this week since I sewing Tabitha a dress for her recital. The perfect fabric was at the first stop, but sadly they didn’t have enough. And it was too little by a lot so I couldn’t make it work. We went to several other stores before finding another one that is similar but not the same as the first. Now I need to get working on the dress. I’m supposedly sewing Easter dresses as well, but I’m not sure I’ll get to them- it’s awfully late. All the traveling we’ve done has kind of thrown things off here at home. But I’m okay with that :)

Yesterday I took the girls into the backyard to do bubbles which they enjoyed immensely. The weather has been nice enough that it’s time to get it cleaned up back there. I don’t keep it clean in the winter since the girls can’t play outside and the cold and rain make it less than inviting. But I’d say it’s time. I did pull some weeds yesterday while they were playing with bubbles, and Tabitha cleaned her swing off, but the playhouse, roller coaster, and slides need my attention. We’re looking at sand and water tables for the backyard this summer. Since Daisy has that thing about liking to stand at a table of toys and she doesn’t particularly care to sit in sand at the park, we think that will be a good addition. We should also see about a swing for Daisy at some point.

I’m only going to briefly touch on this for those of you who feel compelled to mention it to me. I’m aware of all that’s going on in CA regarding homeschooling. No laws have changed, the ruling is the opinion of one panel of three judges. There are plenty of legal groups who are working on it. But please don’t spread the [erroneous] news that homeschooling is illegal in CA. I’m operating under the exact same law as before the case went to court. Nothing has changed.

I read your blog, but rarely comment. I just heard about the ruling in CA. I was curious what your take on it would be. (I am a home-schooler in TN)

I’d like to know how the state would enforce a different law even if they passed one. I’m pretty sure that social services hasn’t got the time or the resources to go knock on 165,000 doors and verify that the kids are enrolled in school. And I doubt that the public schools could accommodate a sudden influx of up to a half-million new students, either. I know G’s school has all it can handle with the kids who are already there.

On another note, I hear you on the back yard — I really need to clean up our patio before the warm weather gets going. I haven’t done anything with it since we moved there because I kept thinking we weren’t going to stay that long, but considering that I just signed a lease for another year, I should probably try to get it to the point where we can actually use it!
