Let’s party!

By Tara Zandra | December 17, 2006

Yesterday was Tabitha’s Christmas party! The initial plan was to not tell her about it until about an hour before the guests arrived, but I had to chuck that idea because Friday I had to shop for tons of stuff for the party and also all the baking that had to be done. Plus she knows we would never scrub the bathroom on a Friday night. So we told her Thursday night and she was thrilled; and then didn’t stop talking about it for the next 2 days.

Anyway, it was a success. Two families were running late so the ones that were here cut out snowflakes while we waited. They enjoyed that little craft and even a couple moms joined in. The other two families showed up at the same time and both brought two children so our party instantly doubled, lol. As each child came in we had them hang an ornament they brought on a little, tacky, white Christmas tree. We sat all the kids down at the table and they made snowmen out of styrofoam balls.

Next we gave them Christmas tree shaped cupcakes, frosting, and assorted sprinkles and let the kids decorate. Once they finished that they loaded their plates with goodies and we sat them on the floor in the living room with a Disney Christmas sing-along video. They sang more than they ate, but I don’t think that’s really a bad thing. It’s not like they needed all that sugar anyway, lol.

The kids then sat at the table for a beverage and then we started our last craft which was decorating foam gingerbread pieces with glitter glue. The kids then bounced around the living room for a bit doing weird dances before we got them to sit once more. I passed around a bowl with numbers in it and everyone chose a paper which had a number 1-8. We lined them up according to number and let them choose an ornament from the little tree (not the same as the one they brought). Daisy actually picked number 1 which I thought was funny because she would care the least which one she got.

Anyway, after they had their ornaments, everyone loaded up with their crafts and went on their way. The party last about 2.5 hours which was a bit longer than I anticipated, but the kids built in extra play like singing and dancing that I couldn’t know was going to happen.

All in all I’d say it was a success!

I’d have to agree that all in all it was a success. Was really nice to take my kid to a party that was designed for her age group. So many times kids are dragged to holiday parties that are for the adults and are forced to sit through boring conversations eating food that isn’t fun or desirable. So, thanks for making an afternoon that was all about the kids. We had a blast!
