By the sea

By Tara Zandra | August 3, 2012

I’ve had it in my head for the last couple of years that I wanted to rent a house near the beach. I finally made it happen this year and it was, well, it was nice and I’d even say fun, but it wasn’t what I envisioned. In my head, we’d go to the beach after breakfast for water or sand play, then back to the house for lunch and regrouping then back to the beach where we’d stay until Chris came to join us after work and then we’d go back to the house and I’d make dinner for us all. In reality, the house was not just 2 blocks from the beach, it was about 20-minutes (walking) which isn’t far per se, but we’ve got Daisy, and chairs, and an umbrella. Then there were clouds every morning and fairly cool temps, and it was a cold wind at the beach itself. And the house, though lovely, was noisy. I mean the floors were loud, the bunk bed was loud, the traffic was loud, the neighbors were loud, and the yowling cats at 2am were loud.

But, we did go to the beach for a few hours on Sunday and a few hours on Monday and the kids had a good time. It wasn’t the best beach and Monday we even had to get out of the water due to stingrays. Side note: if your daughter tells you she felt something alive and you tell her she’s mistaken, later when the lifeguard tells you the stingrays are very active today so maybe get out of the water, the daughter may not let you live that down for a while.

Tuesday we even walked the beach for a couple miles. That’s something I’ve always wanted to do, just walk as far as I could. But the problem with that is you always have to walk back. But we timed it so Chris could pick us up after work when we got to the end. It was about 2.5 miles which is nothing for Tabi and me, but Daisy is our non-walker. However I figured she’d be fine due to us walking along the water and I was right. Up until we got to regular land and then she was tired and didn’t want to walk, but I bought her ice cream so that worked. Oh, and on our walk, we saw 2 dolphins frolicking near the shore so on the whole, my favorite day.

To sum up, good and bad, buy hey pictures!

I’ve always wanted to rent a beach house too but just never have. Looks like fun.
