no time to sit

By Tara Zandra | July 9, 2008

Tabitha is at a day camp this week so there is just no time in the day. In addition to this activity, Daisy started both dance and Kindermusik this week and of course there is still violin for Tabi and gymnastics for both of them. Not that this chaos isn’t of my own making, I’m not truly complaining, you see. I just like to kvetch a little bit. We’re very fortunate the girls can partake of so many activities and I’m thankful in spite of my mild complaints :)

Kindermusik went really well today. Taking 6 months off was really good for Daisy, apparently. We’re still doing the parent participation, but only for the summer. In the fall she’ll move into the older class and I’m sure she’ll do fine. Oh, and dance was okay, but it’s just an intro to dance class and she really wants a “real” dance class, so Daisy isn’t too happy she has to wait until the fall for a true ballet and tap class. She did have fun, don’t get me wrong, it’s just not what she was hoping for, I guess that was my mistake in signing her up.

The Kindermusik theme for the summer is the ocean and I feel a bit inspired to try to make the girls’ summer ocean themed as well. I want to make it more fun than academic based, but since everything in life involves learning to some extent, it will be a part of their education. I’m not very good about putting together unit studies so I’ve spent the evening looking up sites on the net. Sadly, I find the free stuff is usually lacking in the “meat” department, if you will. But I’ve found a few book resources that I think will do nicely. I want to do this with both girls at the same time though, so we’ll see how I pull that off. I’m planning a trip to the beach, of course, plus an aquarium and a tide pools visit. I initially thought they could each put together their own ocean diorama, but now I’m thinking we’ll do a whole wall mural. I have the perfect spot in the dining room that is maybe 7 feet by 3.5 feet on the back side of my kitchen counter. That could be a continuous work-in-progress activity for the summer. Before I order anything, I’m going to take a trip next week to the cool teacher supply store to see what they have in stock.

I had more to talk about, but I’m going to wrap this up as I told myself I would stop at 9 and go take care of some neglected house business before spending the evening with Chris.
