good play date

By Tara Zandra | June 2, 2008

I’m going to have to take a cute kid picture tomorrow so I can replace the Mother’s Day one on the side there.

I put out a plea to my homeschool group for someone to join me at a park today since I was down and in need of friendship. I had 7 people respond and frankly that was kind of enough to pull me out of the doldrums. So I met with one friend today whom I haven’t seen in months and we had a great talk and also just a good time watching the kids play. The park we went to had a fir tree that was really large and had a big open space underneath all the branches. The kids turned it into a clubhouse and were quite proud of their construction.

After that we went directly to ballet where I started a raging headache that was made quite worse by the loudmouth mother/daughter who insisted on talking in booming voices about everything, despite it being a tiny waiting area with just Daisy and I and I was trying to read to her. I didn’t even bother asking Daisy to read to me as I never would have heard her over those two rude people.

Now I’m completely changing the topic from our day to rambling about toys. We have princess, tinkerbell, thomas, care bears, polly, my little pony, littlest pet shop, little people, mickey mouse clubhouse, jojo’s circus, animals and animalz, rubber ducks, little einsteins, winnie the pooh, pixel chix, pirates and castles. Chris and I are so burnt on the toy aisles at Target. Due to my lovely addiction to collections, it’s not like we have a small sampling of any of them. To give you an idea, we bought our first Webkinz in April 2007- our family now owns 56 and only one of them was given as a gift from someone outside the four of us. So basically we buy one a week. Anyway, my point in all this— I guess I don’t have a point since I am just rambling, but I’ve decided on pretty much no more toys from Target or Toys R Us or Kay-Bee and the like for now. It’s so easy to pop a couple toys in the cart because they only cost $5 or so but what that means is we’re never expanding the girls’ array of quality toys- such as their dollhouse and fairy houses. So I asked the girls what they’d like for their fairy houses and then ordered it for them. Daisy chose two wooden birds (raven and songbird) and Tabitha chose clothing accessories for her fairy. I’d like to do that for them every 6 weeks maybe which should also help me not feel the need to go as far overboard at Christmas as I tend to do. Maybe. Well, okay, it probably won’t stop that, but it sounds good in theory.
