Date night

By Tara Zandra | May 15, 2008

Tonight was a night out for me and Chris without the kids :) We didn’t do anything terribly exciting but it’s always good to be alone together. We had a lovely dinner at California Pizza Kitchen. I know I was just there on Sunday, but at the end of that meal they gave me a bounce-back coupon good for the next visit. But it has to be opened by a manager only and the prize is a scratch off. The promotion worked because we went back tonight. We won 20% off tonight’s meal so that was nice. We wandered into a few stores- the bookstore, Hot Topic, and American Greetings. The latter had some of the new Webkinz so we picked out a Lil’ Kinz Chicken (who will have an ironic name such as Nugget or Foster- I’m a bad animal rights activist, lol) and a lioness. We bought the cutest onesie at Hot Topic for a baby gift. It says “Learned to rock before I walked.” I love that Hot Topic carries baby stuff. There wasn’t anything for Daisy right now but we’ve bought her stuff there in the past, mainly Guns N’ Roses clothing. We also got pink dye for Tabitha’s hair. It combs in which should give her nice streaks. She was quite excited when we gave it to her later in the evening as she’s been wanting pink stripes for awhile now.

And other than that we went to Target so I could buy a bathing suit. I cheaped out and bought it off the clearance rack. I don’t like spending money on shoes and apparently it’s the same for bathing suits. But the one I chose is okay and it fits which is really all I can ask. One pieces are very hard to fit on me because I’m tall so I kind of get what I get.

So I got the kids summer schedules all worked out, I think. Daisy has decided to go back to Kindermusik so I signed her up for the summer session. I put her in the parent participation class for the summer, but in the fall she’ll be without me. We talked about it and she’s okay with that. Tabitha will have two museum classes though at different museums, plus she’ll have a theatre day camp. She earned day camp credit through her Girl Scout Cookie sales but I don’t really plan to sign her up for any of them. Honestly, after last summer, I don’t trust them to follow through on what the description says so we’ll just pass on the frustration this year.

Lastly, I put in an order with Rainbow Resource which is a homeschool supplier. I needed our next spelling level and I ordered the Evan Moor History Pockets on Ancient Egypt. I also don’t care for the resources I had gathered for Tabitha’s desire to learn about rocks and gems. I downloaded a unit study from Homeschool Learning Network and it’s really nothing more than a pdf of links. I have to say I’m very disappointed. Thankfully it was only four dollars so it’s no loss. But I’m putting it here in case anyone needs a review of the site. I felt it was rather useless and we gave it a good try. Anyway, what I ordered through Rainbow Resource is a lesson book and hands-on activity kit. It’s called Ring of Fire and there are 4 kits for grades 3-6, igneous rocks, sedimentary rocks, metamorphic rocks, and minerals. I think this will be more in depth which is exactly what Tabitha is looking for. I’ll give a review after we’ve really gotten to know the first kit.

Rocks, summer and scrapbooking have all been taking up space in my mind. Now I’ve solved a couple of those and need to focus on American Girl Felicity and come up with some activities for our next book club meeting.

Thanks, I was just blogging about the bounce nack coupon as well. Wondering what you get. Seems pretty effective.

Pink highlights. You are so much cooler than my husband! He freaks out at the very mention of dye in Madeline’s presence. I was going to let her dye her hair and he was adamantly opposed to it. I don’t see that it’s a big deal.

I’ll have to find something like the stuff you bought for Tabitha. She actually asked me once if she could get green hair mascara once. Um- no! Maybe I’ll find temporary dye that washes out. Dave shouldn’t get too upset by that.
