The Huntington

By Tara Zandra | March 12, 2008

Today the girls and I went to The Huntington Library, Art Collections and Botanical Gardens. Our purpose was to see a Mary Cassatt painting in person as she is the artist we studied yesterday in our art program, Meet the Masters. She was an American Impressionist who focused on women and children for portraits. Our activity was done in soft pastels, though for Daisy I just broke some crayons for her. We were pleased to see the painting on display at The Huntington was one presented to us during the lesson so we were already familiar with it.

We browsed two of the art collections and then wandered a few of the gardens. I had never been there before and did not realize quite how large this place is. We will definitely be going back, on a weekend most likely so Chris may join us. In our two hours of visiting, we went through the Japanese and Chinese Garden, the Children’s Garden, and a conservatory-like building housing exhibits on the rainforests and bogs. We also walked through meandering paths between camillia trees and saw marble statues and a large fountain. I did what I love to do most- took pictures of my kids.
