back to normal

By Tara Zandra | January 23, 2008

We’ve been settling back in. I don’t think we’ll do a big January vacation again. It’s hard to go from Christmas to a big to-do then still have two birthdays coming up. Oh, and we’re going to Chicago in a few weeks. Chris has to go for work and I was trying to figure out where I was going to take the girls for a week because after his last weekend away and the dog doing something to the door repeatedly that scared me enough that I was trying to decide if I should call 911 (obviously I didn’t know it was the dog and that was a heart-pounding hour I do not care to repeat)- anyway, this sentence lost meaning. Let’s just say I’m not staying alone again. But when we first heard of Chicago, we didn’t know it would be soon and we didn’t know it would be for a week. I wasn’t sure how I was going to swing another week away right after Christmas/Disney World/ two birthdays. But then, on the day we left for Disney, Chris was informed that since he’d be gone for more than 3 days, the company would pay for his family to go with him. So we’re going to Chicago! It ought to be interesting for these four native Southern Californians. Chris will need to do some work, but it looks like we’ll have a car and I’ve got a few points of interest to take the girls to during that time. Oh, but the company is also paying for all of us to stay on a couple extra days so Chris can enjoy some things with his family too and not just work. This is why we deal with the crappy hours. It really is a great company to work for.

We did make a decision though based on this next adventure. We’re postponing Tabitha’s birthday party. We decided to hold it in July or August and it will be a half-birthday party. She and I came up with the idea together and she’s thrilled that it means she can now have her party at home instead of at Pump It Up. She and I also decided that Daisy will still have her party though since it’s her first real party with little friends.

I have written days 1 and 2 of our trip report and chosen the pictures to go with it. I just need to edit the pics and then publish then work on the next day. I also need to find something to replace that pic in the corner up there.

Chicago in January! Dress warmly. How great that Chris’ company is paying for the trip.

Tom kept trying to talk me into Chicago for a car show, in Feb. Nuh uh. LOL It’s cold enough here in CO thank you very much. If I go anywhere it’s SOUTH but he tried really hard. Also, I couldn’t really find any super compelling places to take Brenna as a family in Chicago other than Sears Tower although I won’t go up there again because heights make me vomit. I went to Chicago in 1994 for work and got so sick, like I did on the Space Needle in Seattle. Barf. So Tom would take her up there without me! But just curious what places on your list for Chicago since I feel lame at not finding anything. He always wants to go to Austin, TX and again, I found NOTHING there, nothing for families at all There is way more in Denver than Austin which isn’t saying much. LOL

Chicago sounds like lots of fun. Glad the company is making it soo easy for Chris to be with his family and do his work.
The half birthday idea is great. We did that once when Alex was younger. Its was a lot of fun
