The spirit is all around

By Tara Zandra | December 18, 2007

Do you know how long I waited behind just *ONE* car at the ATM last night? Long enough to sing, Joy to the World, God Rest Ye Merry Gentleman, Deck the Halls, my own version of Deck the Halls entitled “Get Out of My Way and Go Already!” and up to six-swans-a-swimming on The Twelve Days of Christmas. I did not choose the right lane.

But the girls and I did have fun singing songs and I got to listen to them before and after the ATM debacle. They work up little routines where Tabitha sings and Daisy provides the “ha-ha-ha” and so forth in various songs though she steadfastly refuses to contribute to Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer for some odd reason known only to her. I’m guessing Rudolph haunts her dreams since the two of them have watched “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer”, “Rudolph and the Island of the Misfit Toys” and “Rudolph and the Shiny New Year.” At some point Rudolph needs his light to go out.

Last night Tabitha, Chris and I made cashew brittle for Chris to take to work today as it is “goody day” at his company. Good stuff, but both Chris and I suffered a skin laceration while breaking the brittle into pieces. My finger has been overly sensitive all day and feels like it was cut with a shard of glass. But totally worth it as the brittle is yummm-my. We were supposed to take a little bag of it to Tabitha’s violin teacher today. But I was called around 1:00pm and she sounded so near to tears as she told me she had a very severe migraine. I can understand her not wanting to teach violin in such a condition. Tabitha was sad as we won’t see her until after all the holidays. But on the bright side, I didn’t have to wake Miss Daisy who has been asleep for 2.5 hours so far and really needs the rest. She has a cold and hasn’t been sleeping well at all plus waking an hour early both yesterday and today not to mention she only napped for 1 hour yesterday. I’d like to sew but can’t for fear of waking Daisy. I just need to add ruffles to a pair of jeans and do a quick gingerbread applique on Daisy’s dress.

After the brittle was made last night, Chris, Tabi and I settled in to watch “The Santa Clause.” Chris and I saw it when it first came out in the theater and remember liking it but that’s all we really remembered. Totally forgot about the whole parents are divorced and fighting plot, not to mention how many times it is very much inferred that Santa isn’t real. Now he is, of course, which is the point of the movie, but I’m unsure how Tabitha felt about all that. I’m thinking tonight we’ll try to watch Santa Clause 2 since none of us have seen that one. There shouldn’t be anymore issues due to it already being established that there is a Santa Claus.

I still need to write about the weekend but I’m currently relegated to the lap top and it’s not a very comfortable posistion to type in.

Wishing you and yours the warmest of Christmas fun,
