A walk in the park

By Tara Zandra | October 12, 2007

We just got back from Park Day and Daisy played! With other kids! On purpose! Strike the harp and let me add a few more exclamation points!!!!!!

Okay, I’m done.

No I’m not!!!!!!!!!

Seriously, I’m done now, but it was amazing. The child wanted to play with kids; kids her size even. She had a great time and we stayed for over four hours. That, in and of itself, is a miracle. I didn’t stay at my own wedding reception four hours. But I didn’t want to pull her away since she was actually having fun for like the first time ever. I have no idea what made her switch but I only hope it sticks around.

In more Daisy news, yesterday she started in the 3 and 4 year old gymnastics class. She did fine. She didn’t really mind that I wasn’t following her around and she only came to talk to me twice. She did hesitate about joining the class in the beginning but her fabulous coach just kept talking to her and inviting her to the circle and Daisy eventually went. She even participated a little bit in the warm up songs. She had zero issues of following directions and waiting her turn, which is in line with what I expected. Of course the physical aspect is a piece of cake for her so no worries there. The times it showed that she is so much younger than everyone else was when the little girls all went to get a drink of water and Daisy not only can’t reach the spigot, but she can’t push the button to make the water come out. Her coach took care of her for that. The other thing was the girls would all kind of chat and were social to each other where as Daisy doesn’t just have conversations with people she doesn’t know. One girl spoke to her and she responded, but it wasn’t an ongoing thing. Other than that though it’s kind of hard to tell she’s that much younger. One girl is barely even bigger than Daisy so she doesn’t stand out that way either. At the end of class, Daisy refused to say she had a good time, but she was smiling during class so I’m going with that. And no crying kids in the older class, yay!

So, two big things with my baby :)
