lake time

By Tara Zandra | August 16, 2007

Today we went with Tabitha’s Brownie Troop to a manmade lake. It’s not far from our house at all, yet I’ve never been there. They have a swim area open during the summer and it was really nice. No waves, multiple lifeguards and they even pump cholorine into the water. I loved it and wish I had known about it sooner. It was way too hot to be there but we stuck it out for 2 hours. I had asked Chris to take the day off work so he could help me out with the kids in the water, but now that I’ve seen it, I could easily do it by myself. I don’t know that we’ll make it back before Labor Day when they close, but it is definitely someplace I want to go next summer more than once.

After we left the lake, we made a stop at home so everyone could shower all the sand off and then headed out to the big Joann’s fabric store. It’s about 30 miles from here, but I really wanted to check it out as this is where I’ll be signing Tabitha up for a kids’ sewing class. We had zero luck with the licensed Disney fabric, but we found a rhinestone setting tool I wanted (with a 40% off coupon!) and I bought a ruffler foot for my sewing machine. Custom kids’ clothes have to have ruffles, and lots of them, so this should end up being money well spent. I’ll be testing it out tomorrow on more tulle for my third (and what better be last) attempt at the perfect halloween skirt for Tabitha.

After Joann’s we were all pretty much starving so we found a Baja Fresh and then went to Toys R Us. I had a $5 coupon that is only good for 3 days, so Chris separated from us and picked up a couple items for the girls for Christmas and took them out to the car. That brings us up to about a dozen things so far, but several of the items are really small, like trains for Daisy’s Thomas set.

After Toys R Us we went to Target because our snack shelf in the pantry was horrendously bare. Now it is chock full of treat goodness. We got home about quarter of 9 so Daisy went to bed, then Tabi, and now Chris has followed suit. Me? I’m a tad wired. I’d really like to start using my ruffler, but it’s loud and I don’t want to disturb everyone. By tomorrow evening I expect to have that darn skirt finished and ruffle-tastic.

Boy the things they do in CA…a lake with chlorine, that’s just crazy, LOL! Glad you had a nice time - have fun with your ruffler foot.
