sweet memories

I took loads of pictures of Daisy in a rose garden yesterday, but the pic above is my favorite even though there isn’t a rose in sight.

When I was child, I visited my Great-Grandma Daisy quite frequently. She lived in West Los Angeles in a triplex that her husband (my Great-Grandfather, but he died before I was born) helped to build as I believe he was a carpenter. We spent a few Easters, Thanksgivings, and Christmas Eves there and I also spent many weekends there. Along the pathway that ran parallel to the building- and divided it from the next property- were these giant purple flowers that grew in clusters that led to many hours of me pretending they were my bridal bouquet. My Great-Grandma died just a few weeks before I turned 10 and the family didn’t want to sell the triplex that was then jointly owned by my Great-Aunt and Grandma (who were sisters). So my mom and I moved in and that is where I lived for the next two years. Alas, after my grandma and great-aunt passed away, the building was eventually sold. A few weeks ago when Chris and I were out that way, we went by it so I could see the new building as I knew a developer had bought it. It’s a three story tall condo building and the flowers I once hunted among for hidden Easter Eggs are no more.

Seeing them yesterday brought such a smile to my face. I had to have my little Daisy pose with them and she thankfully obliged. I don’t always equate Daisy with my Great-Grandma, but sometimes a little something reminds me why I gave her the name. For it represents some very happy childhood memories which are wonderful to look back on and savor.

Now that I think about it, Tabitha’s name represent happy childhood memories as well. For I distinctly remember watching re-runs of “Bewitched” at my baby-sitter’s house almost daily and that was a place I truly enjoyed being. If my kids were to name their kids after childhood memories then I guess my grandkids will be named “Shopping Mall” and “Disneyland.”

Aww, those are sweet memories. :)

Gillian has the same name as a girl who was mean to me in the second grade (hers was pronounced with a hard G, though). I guess I must have gotten over the trauma sometime in the intervening 20 years. LOL

I think the flowers are hydrangeas (sp?)

I remember we had them at the “big white house” in Covina where we lived when I was in junior high/high school. My mother loved them. Does Molly remember the flowers there?

The pictures you have taken are beautiful.
