I finished the girls’ sock monkeys! I’ve had it in my head that I was going to sew sock monkeys since reading this post at DD’s blog. The directions really did seem easy enough that even I could do them. My interest was re-fueled after receiving Daisy’s sock monkey dress and we finally went to buy the socks Thursday, as I mentioned. I worked on them simultaneously but I would guesstimate each one was about 3 hours total work time. I only got to work on them sporadically so though I started during lunch on Thursday, I did not finish until 9:30pm Friday night.

I’m so pleased with how they turned out and they really were easy. Tabitha picked out the green argyle socks and has named him Sam Simian (I suggested the name, she went with it). I chose the striped socks for Daisy and she has named him Monkey Monk (following her recent trend which includes Fishy Fish and Catty Cat). The girls really like them and are very sweet and appreciative of me for making them.

Oh, helpful hint for anyone who may be inspired to make them, don’t use argyle. The strings on the inside were a nightmare for the parts that have to be sewn on the machine. That was the only problem I ran into though.

They turned out beautifully! What I find odd about sock-shopping is that all the colorful, patterned knee highs are adult sized. Where are the children-sized fun socks? I want to find some to make some mini-monkeys.
