funky cold medina

By Tara Zandra | March 10, 2007

In a bit of a funk today, think it started yesterday. It’s not really weather related as we’re having pretty good weather lately. Why I blog when I feel down is beyond me because I just talk about the weather.

I’ll talk a little about hula I guess. For various reasons, we have decided to take a few months away from the halau. Though Tabitha did not initially agree, she has yet to express her regrets at not going to class and/or mentioning when we’ll go back. This means she will not participate in the ho’ike this year. We have started looking at possible other classes she might want to try. Tabitha mentioned an interest in tennis because she’d like the exercise which is a highly commendable reason. The local high school just happened to post a sign about an upcoming tennis program the day after she mentioned her interest. So today she and Chris are at a “tennis carnival” to get more information. They’ve been gone a couple hours so it must be going well. We’re also considering a musical theatre class at the studio where she takes violin. The instructor used to work at Disneyland and we totally recognize her from her picture on the wall, lol. She was in the Buzz Lightyear Show. We’ll probably go ahead and enroll her starting next month. Class will be on Friday, same as violin, but later in the day. Since we live only 2 miles away, it’s no big deal to go there twice in the same day. As it is, if she has an hour violin lesson, Daisy and I often come home even if it’s only for 45 minutes.

I never blogged last weekend, but on Friday, March 2, we went to Legoland for the day. We hadn’t been in quite a few years and Tabitha didn’t even remember going at all. We had a lot of fun, though Daisy wasn’t quite in the mood for rides. Tabitha, however, went on a roller coaster. You have to understand she is a ride weenie for lack of a better term. She gets her thrills from the Dumbo ride and there was a time just 3 years ago she considered it too fast. Seriously. Well, we kept telling her this was this roller coaster she went on the last time we were at Legoland and we looked forward to her going again. Of course, she hated it then, but we didn’t tell her that. Anyway, long story short, she ended up on a medium roller coaster (no big drops, but lots of banked turns and fairly fast) and _loved_ it. I mean she asked to go again immediately so I took her the second time. Then she wanted a third. She would have gone on all afternoon if we had let her. So we were comparing it to coasters at Disneyland so she could decide what she wanted to do and sure enough on Sunday she went on the smallest coaster Disney offers twice in a row and then declared herself ready for Big Thunde Mountain. She rode that in 2005 and declare she would never ride again. Well, she rode it on Sunday and would have gone again if the line hadn’t been so long. Now I think she’s going to go on Space Mountain and even talks of going on California Screamin’ at California Adventure, lol. I laugh because it’s a real coaster and even has a loop. Somehow I don’t see her actually doing it, but we’ll see. The downside is now I’m going to have a very difficult time planning our Disney World trip if I have to add all the thrill rides in. Last year we didn’t do a single one and it kind of worked to our advantage- now I’m starting from scratch and feeling like 9 days isn’t enough! Ideally we’d do 2 weeks, but I doubt we could really pull that off.

I’ll leave you with words of wisdom from my youngest. Something we hear roughly twice an hour:

“What the hell was that?”

Makes me laugh every time.
