I know I’ve talked in the past about our not-so-good experiences with Girl Scouts. In a nutshell, it took me 5 months to have Tabitha placed in a troop; then there were basically no activities at all for the year; in the end she didn’t get the special ceremony that is kind of a big deal when you go up a level; I tried for months and months to become a co-leader with a friend only to be given the runaround, ignored and actually insulted in person at an information meeting. At that point I washed my hands of the whole organization with nothing but extremely bitter feelings. Lo and behold, a friend of my friend just moved here from somewhere else and she was a Girl Scout leader for the past two years. My friend and C worked together to start a new troop of Brownies (as a side note, C had just as much trouble as we did but she was familiar with the inner workings of Girl Scouts and knew what to say to get this thing going. She has since said how horrible our council is and how she never experienced anything like this. Glad it wasn’t just me) and they will have their first meeting this week. I really like C and my friend has loads of enthusiasm for the project and will be a great co-leader. So yesterday I took Tabitha to the council store to get her vest, handbooks and various insignia. From the moment we got into the car she started reading her handbook and didn’t stop until she almost finished it. Tabitha is so excited! She was especially thrilled to learn she’d be selling cookies soon. And I am so happy for her :)

I wish my parents had let me join the Girl Scouts, but farming wasn’t conduscive to any outside-of-the-school activities. I hope she enjoys it and that you don’t eat too many left over cookies.

Yay! I hope Tabitha has fun.

I never thought I could get sick of Girl Scout cookies, but when we sold them last year, I reached a point where I just couldn’t stand the sight of one more Thin Mint. Gillian started adding “Not Girl Scout cookies … please!” every time she requested a snack. LOL

Wow! I used to be one of the brownines when I was young.

I hope Tabitha will experience the whole year of fun activites like I did!
