I need a nap

By Tara Zandra | November 16, 2006

I’m too tired to blog, though I did compose a brilliant post in my head while getting myself lunch ;)

Two nights in a row of going to bed too late and two mornings in a row of getting up too early = a very tired mama. I cut lessons short after math because I just couldn’t focus any more. Soon enough we’re off for a whirlwind of Tabitha’s classes. I’m hoping Daisy will fall asleep in the car and then I’ll just park outside Tabi’s class and wait for her there with a Diet Coke and new People magazines.

So last night the husband and I went out together. Instead of a hot date it was a practical date with errands. We did have dinner together first, though. This restaurant isn’t exactly being put on our banned list, but it certainly didn’t endear itself to us. We used to love going there, but the menu changed which is never a good thing for us veggie folks. Sure enough, they use to offer a grilled veggie taco, burrito, enchilada and so forth. Now the grilled veggies are all gone. I don’t expect restaurants to cater to us, but it’d be nice if they at least did remove their existing vegetarian options. Plus they added St. Louis Ribs to the menu. Huh? It’s a Mexican place, called On the Border. In the words of Chris, what border, exactly, are they on? Anyway, what we ate was good, but it’s not really a favorite restaurant anymore.

So after dinner we ran to Borders Books and looked at potential books for Tabitha. We settled on The Frog Princess but also made many mental notes for futures series for her.

We then did a bit of Christmas shopping for the girls. We had planned to finish up, but I left a big coupon at home so we never even made it to Toys R Us, just Target. I only need to get 3 more things (at Toys R Us) and then we’re done for both kids. I’m pleased with our choices this year and we’re doing it a bit different. We pared down the amount (no small task for me) and really focused on quality of enjoyment. We’re also going to change how we do Christmas morning. Instead of opening everything and then sitting there in a present induced stupor, we’re going to open each gift fully. Meaning taken out of the box, batteries inserted and/or toy put together and then it gets played with right then and there until everyone is ready to move on to the next present. I so remember Tabitha’s second Christmas where we practically had to force her to open more presents and she didn’t understand why we wouldn’t just leave her alone to play. I don’t want a repeat of that with Daisy and also, I’d like Tabitha to be able to enjoy exactly what she has in front of her without worrying about how many more there are or are not to open. So, that’s our plan, we’ll see how it goes.

Back to last night, Chris and I also went to Staples in search of a good world map for Tabitha and I to use for History. We ran into a snag in that the one, and only one, that was acceptable did not have any kind of UPC or price or anything. So the manager worked something out by comparing it to all the other maps and settled on $15.00. Seemed a bit much for me but I was tired and really wanted the map. This morning I searched Staples.com and found our map for only $10.95. So do I print the page out and take it with me to the store to try and get my $4.00? Or do I just let it go? I’m assuming I’ll let it go due to sheer laziness, but I’m not happy about it. Chris will be coming home with sheets of cork for me to mount the map onto and then we’ll be able to mark all the places we read about for a present day look at location.

We also unsuccessfully looked for a dress at Old Navy and bought the new KROQ calendar at Best Buy as well as a heavily marked down Disney holiday DVD before going to pick up the kiddies.

I had to laugh at your ‘banned’ list. I have a list too and if I don’t like a place, I leave exclaiming to the hubbie “That place is on my list!!” heh We have an On the Border here too and I like it well enough. I’m not a vegitarian though so I don’t have the same problems you did. Sorry to hear bout that though, I can imagine how irritating that must be. I wonder if you could have requested grilled veggies? Oftentimes I have found many rest. to be pretty accomodating (sp?) to what I want to order.

Oh, and I vote for getting your money back at Staples!! Money is money!!
