Things they be happening

By Tara Zandra | January 6, 2013

I must send up an apology to Mother Nature. Last week I checked the projected forecast for today and it was 77 and clear. Very good combo for a day at Disneyland. After a couple days, it was changed to high of 68 and a bit cloudy. Not as good, but still fine. Then it went to 62 with 5% chance of rain which eventually got changed to 58% chance and rain every hour. So we cancelled our planned day which mattered as we had wanted to take part of the Dia de Reyes celebration at Disneyland. So today it was raining when we woke but apparently not in Anaheim as we got a text from a friend inviting us to join them and telling us it was clear. But the thing is, the car I was looking for turned up two days ago at a nearby dealer so we had decided to go there since it was raining.

Chris worked some major magic and refused to budge on our price. We had cash and he flat out told them we would not go higher. He said he understood if they wouldn’t accept it, but we would have to walk if they couldn’t accept. They made him talk to 3 different people but in the end, they took it! Except when we went to fill out all the paperwork it had been changed to our price plus 1 cent. Whatever, I had a penny in my purse. If that made them feel better, that’s fine. Handing over that cash damn near killed me though.

So my apology. If it hadn’t rained, we would have gone to Disneyland and I wouldn’t have a car. Also, we did squeeze Disneyland in yesterday for about half an hour. This is my kids having the time of their lives at the celebration.

You can almost feel their annoyance at me. Yeah, it wasn’t very fun and in the end I totally gave up. Disneyland has not worked out for us since November. California Adventure has been grand, but not so much the Land. Although to be fair, the night we went for fireworks was really good so I guess I should acknowledge that. All the other recent times? Nope.

Back to today. After the car buying (Can I get another yay?!) we took the girls to put holes in their heads. Daisy got her ears pierced and Tabitha got second holes. Dee was in the crying stage of nervous but did just fine and Tabitha made faces that I captured on camera and am banned from sharing.

And just because time jumping is fun, back to yesterday we went to the Cleopatra exhibit at the California Science Center.

It was really good. We all got different things out of it which I think is the sign of a good exhibit. For me, just being in rooms with items made 2000+ years ago is awe-inspiring. I can practically feel the past reaching out and touching me.

Further back in time we went to Mad T Party again on Friday. It was fantastic and I got to work out my new camera some more. I’m frustrated though because it films in HD and looks so spectacular on my computer. But the minute I upload to youtube the quality is diminished significantly. I’ve searched and searched the internet and the best I can figure out is it’s youtube’s fault and it’s just the way it is. Sucks though because my vids are so amazingly clear (still loving my camera!) but you’d never know it by seeing them on youtube. Anyway, since dance starts back up this week, that’s the last Friday we can catch the first set so we were intent on going even though the children were overtired and apparently had a not-so-good time together. We didn’t really find that out until the next day though. So yes, we forced our kids to go on rides at DCA so Mommy and Daddy could play. I don’t know that they’ll find a sympathetic therapist on that one, lol. We’ll give them a little time off, I guess :)

Congrats on the new car! That is always fun. What mall were you at for the earrings? I was trying to guess by the background. My memory of SoCal malls is fading but I remember some fondly. I used to go most often to Brea Mall, South Coast Plaza, Fashion Island, and one in…Santa Ana I think. Main Place? I can’t remember the exact name of it. And then sometimes I’d get a crazy hair and drive all the way up north to the Del Amo mall. I loved that one back in the 80’s.
