Gingerbread houses

By Tara Zandra | December 13, 2012

December Photo Project- Day 13

Once upon a time, the only thing Tabitha wanted was a gingerbread house kit. At a gift exchange she received a gift card to Michael’s and I suggested she use it on a kit there. She bought it and it promptly sat unopened on top of our fridge for 5 or 6 years. I say it was then thrown out, Tabitha says she opened it and it was broken inside and then it was thrown out. Regardless, it never fulfilled it’s destiny to be a candy decorated stale house.

This year Tabi had her eyes on a kit at Target that had 5 little houses. So I bought them and she finally got to decorate a real gingerbread house. And found out that it’s not easy and frankly, a little frustrating. But overall she and her sister had a good time with frosting and candy. Maybe someday she’ll even do the other houses in the kit.

And bonus picture, this one is Daisy’s.

Gillian and I made a gingerbread house one year, and that’s when we found out that if you run out of royal icing and try to make more with those egg whites that come in the carton, you get yellow snow. Oops.

That is the same kit we bought this year. The small ones were WAY harder than the larger ones we usually buy. Never again. LOL
