Two Days

By Tara Zandra | August 10, 2012

Yesterday my car wanted to overheat- something that was avoided by a combination of the heater and refusing to let my car idle. In short- it sucked.

Today we spent time with some of our dearest friends and the girls swam while I got hours of wonderful chatting in. Today did not suck.

Not sure what to do about the car, can’t really get it fixed right now, can’t really be without a car. It just has to last 4 more months because come hell or high water, I will be getting a new (at least to me) car at the end of the year. But for now, I’ve got places to go and I really have to be able to drive there. But then I’m right back to where I started which is- can’t really get it fixed right now.

I’m pleased with myself this week because there have been many days where the heat has made me not want to cook. Now in general, I don’t mind heat. For the most part I remain comfortable and don’t complain. However, being out and about in it still saps my energy and I’m less inclined to cook big meals. But this week, instead of succubming to the lure of fast food or a restaurant, I still cooked just by switching my menu up so- yay me!

And as long as I’m on the topic of food, I’ll share the girls’ lunches today. They’re fairly basic, but I’ve been wanting to keep a record of them here for reference.

This is the top layer of the bento and is just watermelon cut into simple shapes and stuck onto food picks.

Underneath we have cucumber sandwiches with sealed edges made with a pita sandwich maker. I forgot I should only use it on square bread because Dee was not happy with the amount of crust left on her sandwich. On the right I made peanut butter, banana, and Nilla Wafer sandwiches, then on one of them I edged it in peanut butter and rolled it in sprinkles. In the back are brown rice crackers.

It was a tasy lunch, but I wish I had been able to put it together in a better manner, maybe include more fruit with the watermelon.
