Everybody sing!

By Tara Zandra | July 23, 2012

We saw The Wiggles for the very last time, Monday night. We went to our first Wiggles concert when Tabitha was 5 and even had front row seats. We’ve gone almost every year since then. We didn’t last year though as there didn’t seem to be a desire. I had decided earlier this year that I’d look into going and then they announced Greg’s return. Well that clinched it, we were definitely going. I went back and forth on Tabitha going with us or not, but she seemed less than enthused so we only bought 3 tickets. Maybe a week later it was announced that 3 of the 4 Wiggles are retiring at the end of this year and being replaced which is totally unfathomable. If we had known, we would have bought Tabi a ticket but there wasn’t anything we could have done about it then.

We own multiple Wiggles CDs. They have provided a backdrop on many roadtrips. They have inspired more than a fair share of our family sing-alongs. Going and knowing this was it was really sad. I will be completely honest though and say the show did not have the same pizzazz as in past years. I still teared up at doing Rock-a-Bye Your Bear with my kid though. Daisy was more into this concert than we have ever seen her and that made it even more sad.

At the end of the show I mentioned to Chris that I’ve read that the guys often come out at the end of shows to sign autographs so we figured we had nothing to lose. I think it worked in our favor that it was a late concert (6:30 start= late; ha!) in that not a lot of people waited around. Eventually Jeff (purple) did come out followed by Murry (red) and finally Greg (yellow). We never saw Anthony (blue) but that’s okay- 3 out of 4 isn’t bad! We rushed with Jeff by just putting our kid in front and taking a quick shot, but Daisy was being held up for Murry and Greg so they took the time to talk with her. Honestly, these guys danced and sang on stage for TWO shows and then still had time to chat with their fans?! Never once did we feel like they didn’t want to be there and they truly were the nicest people possible. It was the best ending to the Wiggle chapter of our life.

PS When we told Tabitha the whole story, she was one teed-off teenager. She gets very nostalgic for her “youth” and she was bummed she didn’t get to meet people she used to idolize.

Oh dear, Greg is looking old! *sniff* Glad you guys had a good experience for your last concert. We never saw the Wiggles in concert, but we did see Barney and Sesame Street Live, back in the day.
