Baby, you’re a firework

By Tara Zandra | July 4, 2012

Started the day with German pancakes, but I used blueberries and strawberries and whipped cream for some red, white, and blue. But then we had Mexican for lunch (if you can call Del Taco “Mexican” food) so we were right back to mixing up the cultures a bit. As Chris pointed out, our country is all about the blending of cultures so I think we were still good for Independence Day.

I had the girls do an activity I saw on Pinterest. Basically you fill a pan with baking soda and then use eye droppers to add vinegar that’s been tinted with food coloring. I told the girls they were making their own fireworks. Surprisingly fun for something so simple. Of course, then we took everything outside and poured baking soda into the vinegar cups and vice versa. Lots of colored foamy action.

After dinner we finally went to go see Brave. Though I think the storyline lacked depth and was more than a little like Brother Bear, I still really enjoyed it. Who couldn’t love just staring at it? I mean I know everyone is saying how beautiful it is, but seriously, that was one gorgeous movie. And I know I need to buy the soundtrack asap.

When we came out of the theater we could see lots of fireworks, many of them coming from our neighborhood. It was neat to see them from a distance like that as the theater is on a hill so we were looking down on them in a way. Once we were home, the girls used their snappers and then we went for a walk to get a better vantage point for all the lights. Eventually we came home and immediately got the younger child to bed but the older one is just now going. Lots of booms still going on so we’ll see how we all sleep.

It turned out to be a good day after all.

LOL We had Taco Bell for lunch that day! A more traditional dinner though.
    The project sounds fun!
