Another mission
By Tara Zandra | November 8, 2011
We went on a field trip with our park group today down to San Juan Capistrano on the train. Our first stop was the San Juan Capistrano Mission which is Orange County’s only mission- as every single piece of literature is eager to tell you.
Next we walked a couple blocks to a place called Zoomars which is a petting zoo. Not just goats like most petting zoos, but different kinds of animals. We fed llamas, an ostrich, turkeys, rabbits, guinea pigs, yes goats, and zedonks!! That’s what you get when you cross a zebra with a donkey and I think my new favorite animal.
Do you know how hard it is to get two very girly-girls away from bunnies and guinea pigs that let you snuggle them? Tabitha even named one of the rabbits and was making plans to smuggle it home. There was one thing that did distract them, amazingly enough. A corn pit.
That’s a sandbox filled with dried corn instead of sand. It was a big deal to the all the kids playing in it, both big and small. Easy to dump out of pockets too as opposed to sand which never completely comes out of anything. We spent an amaizng amount of time in there. Apparently it was comfy enough for a nap.
Eventually I had to pull them away so we could make the train home. They of course had to say good-bye to every animal in the place. This guy though might haunt my nightmares.
eee-val!

Looks fun! I’ve never seen or heard of a zedonk! If you ever get to Colorado, stop at the CO Springs zoo. You can feed the giraffes up on platforms level with their faces. It is the coolest thing ever. It’s a smaller zoo than the one in Denver but more interesting I think because you get so much closer to the animals.
