The great wide open sky

By Tara Zandra | September 19, 2006

The flights went as well as could be expected. Just as once occured 6 years ago, a flight attendant spoke in an inappropriate manner to a baby thinking that would make the child sit where they had no intention of sitting and stop screaming. Also, as happened 6 years ago, a screaming child was calmed during descent by me signing the alphabet while singing the ABC song. I practically hypnotized the baby and then she slept for the next 2 hours. Most of that time I was holding her in a position that made me beyond uncomfortable. I also did not do well with either landing and have decided that flying across the country in any manner other than non-stop is not something I plan to experience again (save for the journey home). I was a wreck for most of the afternoon and evening after the plane made it’s one stop and I do blame that first descent. I had planned a quick trip with Tabi next year as a birthday gift, but have scrapped that plan since it’s too late to get non-stop at a price I’m willing to pay.

We’re staying at Disney’s Pop Century Resort. They call it a “value” resort, I call it Disney’s version of Motel 6. Never again, I can tell you that. The room is so freaking tiny that the beds are both a double and when you open the door there is maybe 4-inches between the door and first bed. The closet is half the size you would find at most hotels, the bathroom has zero counter space, and there isn’t the usual sitting chair simply because there isn’t room. It’s nice for what it is, but for our next visit, we’ll be going up a level in resorts, that’s for darn sure. The good side is it’s very new, therefore very clean, the housekeeping is extraordinary, and there are ginormous statues of Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head nearby.

Maybe they make the rooms so tiny that you will spend more time outside of the room spending money in their establishments, hmmm?
