I don’t like to complain about a specific thing about my kids, but I must give you a glimpse into what makes Tabitha, Tabitha. Just for background, the child does not clean up toys. She would rather do anything other than clean up toys, though she’s better if someone works with her.

Okay, today, she happened to be reading something important to her when I said the playroom simply could not stay that way and “Let’s clean this up real quick.” Insert whining on how she really wanted to read. I considered for a moment, realized she really was engrossed and I didn’t actually need her help and most of it was not her mess. “Okay,” I say, “no need to help, go back to your reading.”

“NO! I want to help clean! Let me clean!”

So I told her no, because she was just trying to argue with me. She always says the opposite of me and will say no just to say no. I explained all that to her and sent her off.

She went sulking to her room because I wouldn’t let her clean and then comes out in a huff and tells me, ever so snottily, “Fine. I’m going to clean up my room then so that I can clean too!”

Insert head toss of a cloud of blonde hair with nose firmly planted facing the ceiling

And off the kid went to clean her room instead of read.
