full day

By Tara Zandra | July 7, 2011

Wednesday was what I envisioned many days this summer to look like. Yet so far, it’s been the only one. Since we don’t have dance right now and Tabitha is only in 2 camps total this year, I really thought we’d focus on lessons. But then I got this great idea to take that week off, then it was a 4 day weekend for Chris, then I had another great idea to let Tabitha have friends over for a weekly viewing of the Harry Potter movies. But Wednesday was beautiful; both girls practiced violin and did math; Tabitha practiced French, did science, history, geography, reading comprehension, and spelling while Daisy did printing, reading, mazes, a workbook, and I read to her. It was simply wonderful not to be concerned with a time limit to head out to dance.

Thursday we had the Harry Potter showing. Tabitha read the books for the first time when she was 7. She’s read the entire series once more since then and is doing it again right now for the third time. In all that time, she very much did not want to see the movies. But now she’s decided she does, just in time for the last movie to come out. So I thought it would be fun for her to watch them with the Harry Potter fans among her friends. We had 6 girls here Thursday plus Tabitha for the Sorcerer’s Stone and I ordered pizza for everyone as well. Daisy and I hung out in my room and kept each other company. Tabitha was thrilled with how close the movie was to the book and looks forward to seeing the others.

After everyone left, we had one friend stay as we were taking her out for her birthday. She’s a doing kind of girl who doesn’t usually want things. So we got the idea to take her to the mall where they have the bungee/trampoline jumper that the girls did for their birthdays. She thought it was a lot of fun which made me happy. We then made a quick stop at See’s Candies for treats for the drive back to her house.

Will Tabitha do camps next year, do you think? Most of the ones around here stop after age 12 - Gillian might do a 2-week, half-day acting class that’s for teenagers, but other than that she’s likely to have an old-school “sit around and watch tv” sort of summer.
