We survived!

By Tara Zandra | January 22, 2011

Another birthday party for Miss Tabitha. The kids keep getting bigger, but my house sure doesn’t! Last year I said not in the house again, but we didn’t do any real planning to not have it here, so this was our only choice. I think next year though, we really are going to look outside the home.

The theme this year was Backwards Birthday Bash. Our invitations were printed backwards so the invitees had to hold them up to a mirror to read. We hung all our decorations upsidedown, including hanging balloons from the ceiling, as opposed to helium balloons floating. Once here, we had the kids write their names backwards on nametags, then guess the number of M&Ms in the jar, then grab a piece of paper and head into the living room. The paper had a punch line to a joke and the kids had to come up with the joke part to go with it. Much harder than we thought it would be. That was our “Let’s wait for everyone to arrive” activity.

Once we had all the guests, we ran the party in reverse, which means Tabitha opened presents first. Her friends really know her as she got some lovely and thoughtful gifts. Next we served cake and ice cream and sang Birthday Happy to You. Next was on to the party games!

First up was Pin the Donkey on the Tail, which is it exactly like it sounds. Then we played Freeze Dance, but the kids had to dance when we stopped the music and freeze when the music started. Chris chose Freeze Frame by J. Geils Band. Next we played Backwards Bingo which means the kids had to uncover the numbers instead of cover them. We played for first and second place, which Daisy won second. Our last thing was a piñata. To be backwards, instead of putting candy on the inside, we taped it all to the outside and the kids grabbed one off as their take home goody.

All in all, it was a lot of fun. The kids had a fantastic time and Tabitha is very blessed with wonderful friends :)
