back in time

Thanksgiving was really wonderful. We had such a lovely time at my in-laws’ and all the food was delicious! Sadly, my mother couldn’t make it afterall so the vegetarians outnumbered the meat eaters! We went home a little after 7 and after the kids were in bed, Chris and I wanted to watch a movie. But we had nothing. We eventually settled on an old movie from 1940 called “His Girl Friday” with Cary Grant. Different but interesting.

Friday morning after breakfast we headed out to do a little letterboxing. Our first stop was a park that had lovely, metal equipment including a rocket!

Sadly, it was welded shut. But the kids enjoyed playing on the metal slide since it wasn’t hot yet, as well as the climbing Saturn pictured above. Then we moved over the newer playground where they got dizzy on a merry-go-round. I was surprised to see that because it’s new, not an old metal one and I didn’t think they put merry-go-rounds in parks any more. Daisy proved why by falling off and of course she would have hit her head if she had leaned a certain way but she didn’t and wasn’t hurt at all. We decided to go though because she was covered in wood chips and after spending time getting all of them off, I didn’t really want to send her back into it.

Our next letterboxing was at a park with just baseball and football fields. But the letterbox itself was found after a wonderful trek near a dry creek bed along the park. After we found it and did all our stamping, the girls explored the creek bed. Definitely a great way to spend some time.

That night, the kids were left with my mom and sister while Chris and I went to see Weezer in concert! This was called their Memories Tour and what they did was start off with the most recent single. Then went back to 2009 and played a single off that album. Then back to 2007 with a single off that one and so on back all the way to their second album. Then they took a break and then played their very first album, and my absolute favorite, all the way through from beginning to end. It was amazing! Hearing the whole album live was so much fun.

*Couple notes, I loved how they announced the album and year before each song.

*There were 2 songs I didn’t know but other than that, it was all the big hits you would expect (Hash Pipe, Beverly Hills, Island in the Sun, etc.).

*There was a slide show given during the break with photos and memorabilia from their good friend/roadie/historian/ who has been with them from the beginning.

*Weezer’s newest album is called Hurley after the Lost character and the actor Jorge came on stage the second song with them.

*Aside from Jorge, our celebrity sighting of the night was Zachary Levi from Chuck and Tanlged, who we think was there with Josh Gomez, also from Chuck. We could see them rocking out from the side of the stage during the second set. Benji Madden was also there, but 1) I don’t really care, and B) we didn’t see him.

Wow, the only ever time I’ve seen a rocket on a playground was a place we went in Boulder, CO when we lived there. Here it is. It isn’t sealed off tho, kids can climb in it. http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2340/2109255688_19c14482b2.jpg
