we made the best of it

By Tara Zandra | October 16, 2010

I awoke to rain this morning. It wouldn’t normally matter too much except today was pumpkin patch day. Not a pumpkin patch in a parking lot, but a real pumpkin patch, as in growing in what would now be mud. The kids were disappointed because it’s only open today and tomorrow and we can’t go tomorrow. But we promised them we’d still get pumpkins somewhere and altered our plans for the day. First stop was Ruby’s for breakfast. They’ve always been vegetarian friendly but they really get props for including vegetarian sausage on their breakfast menu- that is quite uncommon. We then went to Target for Halloween supplies, Payless for appropriate shoes for Daisy’s costume, back to Target for forgotten items, then onto Joann’s for the last things I needed for Tabi’s costume. The family dropped me and all the stuff off at home and they went to the pumpkin store, aka CVS. Chris was there last night and noticed they had really nice pumpkins so he figured that was as good a place as any to take the kids. They came home with 8 good sized pumpkins and 3 little ones.

I started sewing, ran out of black knit, and headed back to Joann’s. The store was empty so I was in and out in 5-minutes which I think is a record for that store. I sewed for the next hour and a half and then we went out to lunner since we hadn’t eaten lunch after our big breakfast. We went to Rubio’s for yummy goodness, then made out a menu and shopping list for the next few days and then went to the grocery store. Once home, the girls both baked those pre-made Halloween cookies we had picked up while I finished sewing. And I finished! We had Tabitha put on everything but her shoes and the costume looks great. I am so pleased and really love the pattern. Daisy then wanted to put on her costume with her new shoes so we had a mini fashion show going.

By then it was time to put Daisy to bed and then eventually Tabitha. Chris and I will probably relax a bit but then we’ve got to get ready for tomorrow.

We eat at Ruby’s all the time but never for breakfast so I had no idea they offered veggie sausage. That is really awesome.
