good wed.

Tabitha had a field trip this morning at a paint your own wood piece place. It was put together by a friend of mine who teaches an American Girl literature class through a homeschool co-op and the project was for the girls to paint a treehouse for the mini American Girl dolls. She invited Tabitha to join since she knows how much Tabitha likes American Girl, plus many of her friends are in the class. Tabitha had a fabulous time. We’ll need to go back as a family sometime soon, I think.

While she was there, Daisy and I went to the mall so she could play in the play area. Not 10-minutes after we entered, and employee from Barnes and Noble came over to tell all the moms that story time was about to start. Daisy decided to go and she and I both got to hear “Where the Wild Things Are” for the first time. Definitely not my style at all and I’m not really sure Daisy cared for it either. It was made interesting by the Betty Boop voice of the girl reading it though, let me tell you. After the story there were activity pages which Daisy breezed through and then she opted to leave the group and browse the books on her own. Eventually we went back to play area for half an hour before getting Tabitha.

We decided to just do the 5 must dos in lessons today; spelling, French, violin, grammar, and math. Other than that, Tabitha played with the treehouse and her mini American Girl dolls. Daisy played as usual though we did math and reading in the late afternoon before dinner.

We tried a new veggie sausage tonight. I’m always on the quest for the perfect sausage which to me would emulate a kielbasa. Boca used to make one that was good enough but then discontinued it for some reason. We have yet to find a substitute. This one was specifically called “smoked style” by Lightlife and it had the exact right texture. Sadly, it was lacking seriously in the flavor department. It was so bland! I can remedy that, I suppose, but using salt in the cooking next time. Hopefully that will do the trick.

“Where the Wild Things Are” was one of my favorite books as a kid. The movie was bizarre and depressing, though.

Have you tried any of the Field Roast products? We really like them. Altho the sausages are VERY fragile and can be tricky to get out of the casings (I’ve perfected a technique tho LOL), after you fry them in a pan with a little nonstick spray they firm up nicely and have a firm texture. We love the apple sage flavor. Had it for dinner tonight actually. The loaves are great to slice for sandwiches. http://www.fieldroast.com/products.htm
We also buy the Tofurky brand sausages. http://www.tofurky.com/tofurkyproducts/sausages.html We like these two better now than the Boca or Morningstar Farms brands.
