pick me up

By Tara Zandra | August 6, 2009

Around 10:30 this morning I realized how badly I needed a nap. Considering I woke up at 7 and went to bed early, that wasn’t a good sign. I held out until 11:30 and then went to lay down. I couldn’t get comfy, which may have had to do something with the two light sabers taking over my bed (not a euphemism) so I told the kids to get their shoes and we took a quick walk.

The sun felt nice and it was very pleasant to hear the birds. Just the right way to inject some energy in my body.

Okay, so in reality we walked to McDonald’s and got soda and cookies, I guess I get my energy through chemicals. And yes, I’m back on the sauce that is caffeine. I had a few days last week where I just gave in and had some and turns out, it no longer makes me nauseous- I don’t think that’s a good thing. Plus, while I can stay awake longer, I think my quality of sleep is really poor as I’ve been having a super hard time waking up in the morning and when Daisy wakes me in the middle of the night, I’m less than accomodating to her. It’s kind of bordering on anger but I don’t seem to be able to respond nicely. Then come morning, I’m kind of starting the day cheesed off because my head is groggy due to still being tired. Is it all related to the caffeine I’ve been drinking? I don’t know. But I’ll tell you what, I just finished my large from McD’s and wish I could walk back and get a refill.

I’m not the only one who’s been in slo-mo this morning. Tabitha slept in just a little because she stayed up late watching The Empire Strikes Back with her uncle (he’s in charge of her geek education since he also supplies her with comic books). Then the kids took forever to get ready which probably has a lot to do with why there are light sabers on my bed (still not a euphemism). So it’s noon and Tabitha has only done French, violin, music theory, reading comprehension and grammar. She’s working on a writing lesson but the assignment is to write directions on how to play a game as if you were talking to second graders. So now she has it in her head that as soon as she’s done, she and Daisy are going to go play the game she’s writing the directions on. We still have math and ancient history that I’d like to do today, plus spelling because I forgot it again yesterday. How does that keep happening? I also did French after taking a looooong time off from it. Je suis not so good at it. When we finish all of Level 1 I was thinking maybe Tabitha and I could watch some Disney movies in French since we’d be familiar with the story and then we’d see how much we could understand. I’d also like to get children’s reader books in French for us both, but not sure how to find them. It’s a shame Tabitha didn’t want to do Spanish, that would be much easier to practice.

Sharing a little Daisy funny from last night. I currently have a shopping cart on hold at Gymboree.com and I’ve been debating if I want to put the order in. I really have to decide soon because my coupon expires on the 9th. It’s fall and winter stuff that the kids definitely need (just one outfit for Tabitha and she’s at their top size so I can’t get her too much for fear she’s outgrow it too soon) but I don’t know that’s it’s a good time right now even with my coupon. Anyway, I was telling Chris my plight and told him I’m about 70% no and 30% yes about sending the order. Miss Daisy pipes up that she’s 100% yes and 1% no because she really likes clothes and really wants me to order them! That’s my little shopper :)

Finally! It sounds like the girls are done with the game so I think we’ll do some ancient history before our late lunch.
